Admissions

Join a Community of Inquisitive Minds

Admissions at Berkeley International Academy is a selective process, but not an elitist one. We are not looking for the student who simply has the highest grades; we are looking for the student who asks the most interesting questions. We seek potential, curiosity, and a willingness to contribute to our school culture.

Whether you are a local Wellingtonian looking for a more focused academic environment, or an international student seeking a world-class education in New Zealand, our process is designed to be transparent and personal.

The Application Journey

Step 1: The Enquiry & Tour We discourage “blind” applications. We invite families to visit us at 3 Inverlochy Place. Walk our hallways, observe a lab session, and feel the atmosphere. If you are overseas, we arrange a comprehensive virtual consultation.

Step 2: Formal Application & Portfolio Alongside standard academic transcripts, we require a “Learner Profile.” For Arts candidates, this is a visual portfolio. For Sciences and Humanities candidates, this is a short piece of writing detailing a problem they wish to solve in the world.

Step 3: The Interview Shortlisted candidates are invited to an interview with a Senior Dean or the Principal. This is not an interrogation. It is a conversation to see if our values align with yours. We are interested in your character—how do you handle failure? What excites you?

Step 4: Offer of Place Successful applicants will receive a formal Letter of Offer. Due to our limited class sizes, we often maintain a waitlist for our Senior High School streams.

International Students

Welcoming students from across the globe is part of our DNA. We strictly adhere to the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021.

  • English Proficiency: We require evidence of English capability (IELTS or equivalent) to ensure students can cope with our fast-paced curriculum.
  • Accommodation: We assist in arranging high-quality homestays with vetted local families, ensuring international students experience true Kiwi hospitality.
  • Support: Our International Dean provides dedicated support, from visa compliance to emotional well-being checks.
