Measuring Success Beyond the Grades

At Berkeley International Academy, we celebrate achievement in all its forms. While we are immensely proud of our academic statistics, we are equally proud of the young playwrights, inventors, and community leaders who walk our halls. Our definition of success includes resilience, creativity, and contribution to society.

Academic Excellence

Our students consistently outperform national averages, a testament to our specialised stream system.

  • University Entrance: 96% of our Year 13 cohort achieved University Entrance (UE) in the last academic year.
  • Scholarship Distinction: Last year, BIA students garnered 12 NZQA Scholarship awards, with particular strength in Calculus, Physics, and Design.
  • Global Placements: Our alumni are currently studying at prestigious institutions including the University of Melbourne, Imperial College London, and various University of California campuses, alongside our local pillars like Victoria University of Wellington and University of Auckland.

The Arts & Technology

  • Wellington Regional Arts Show: BIA students have taken home the “Young Curator’s Choice” award for two consecutive years.
  • Coding & Innovation: Our Computer Science team placed in the top 5% of the national “Techstart” challenge, developing an app to assist tourists in navigating Wellington’s wind and weather patterns.

Community & Service

Achievement is also about what you give back.

  • The Inverlochy Initiative: A student-led volunteer group that organises weekend clean-ups of the Te Aro streets and provides tutoring support for younger children in the neighborhood.
  • Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award: We have a thriving programme with over 60 students currently working towards their Bronze, Silver, or Gold awards, demonstrating commitment to physical recreation, skill building, and voluntary service.

We do not hide the fact that these achievements require hard work. There are late nights and difficult challenges. But looking at the list of our alumni’s accomplishments, we know that the effort is worth it.
